setting jigs for the wings

To build the struts for the wings I had to build jigs to keep the tubes at 90 degrees.
Next we set the struts into the wings

cutting the tubes

Working with tubing requires a tube cutter. You have to be careful not to crush the tube so you gently turn and tighten the cutter. The tubes are then filed to a curve called a fish mouth .
This allows the tubes to fit together before brazing.

technique for construction

I am building this model out of steel brake tubing. The scale of the model is 1 inch = 1 ft. The larger version will be a 1/3 scale with wings over 10 ft. in length.
The model is held together with silver brazing. To connect pieces you have to heat the tubing till its red hot then metal will flow and stick.
